Golfers

GOLFERS:  KNOW WHEN TO SAY ‘STOP’ AND STAY ON COURSE

The repetitive one-sided twisting motions of golf can create muscle imbalances, sacroiliac joint injuries and pelvic rotations. Short of lightning striking on the golf course, you may find yourself wanting to continue to play, injured or not. There are times though, you will have to stop playing – even if you don’t want to.

Here are some guidelines you should follow:
• Stop playing when the injured body part hurts at rest.

• Call your chiropractor for a structural assessment and treatment for either hypermobility-instability or hypomobility-fixation of the joint.

• During your rehabilitation, strengthening and healing period you are allowed minimal activity on the golf course, such as chipping around the green and putting.  REMEMBER THAT CHIPPING AND PUTTING ACCOUNT FOR MORE THAN 50% OF YOUR SCORE AND YOU COULD PROBABLY USE THE PRACTICE!

• You can resume playing when you are able to take full practice swings and hit foam or whiffle balls without pain.  If you can do this pain free, then you can start hitting shots in the 100-yard to 150-yard range for a few days.  If the pain returns, you must agree to stop.
